Ladies Lough Gill Tour Saturday 28th of September

This ladies only cycling event is now a well-established part of Innisfree Wheelers annual event calendar. The 40km event is specifically designed for women who wish to get back on the bike. This year for the first time we also have introduced a 65km distance which should suit more experienced women cyclists. In fact, almost 50% of Innisfree Wheelers one hundred and twenty members are of the fairer sex.

The 40k event is suitable for even beginner cyclists as the tour will be conducted at a leisurely pace with no cyclist being dropped and full back up and support being provided along the way. It starts at The Sligo Park Hotel at 11am. (Registration there from 10am – €15 Cycling Ireland members and €20 non-Cycling Ireland members).

The 40k route travels around Lough Gill anti-clockwise with a nice food stop in Dromahair. The women will then enjoy the nice scenery on the home stretch as they peddle past the shores of beautiful Lough Gill and the majestic Parkes Castle.

The 65k event will begin with a scenic loop around Strandhill and proceed behind the beautiful Knocknarea mountain towards Ballisodare. Then it is on to Ballintogher via Ballygawley. This route then merges with the 40k route appropriately at Innisfree crossroads and takes the same path home via the welcome food stop in Dromahair.

Once arriving in Sligo there is just the slight climb of Pearse Road before arriving back to the Sligo Park where sandwiches and tea/coffee/soup will be available for the participants.

This year our partner charity is The Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Centre for Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan. We are delighted to be associated with this very worthy local women’s charity. We wish also to acknowledge the help and support provided to the event by Sligo Sports Partnership in association with Women in Sport.
