Innisfree Wheelers Christmas Charity Weekend Raises Significant Sum
Yet again this year Innisfree Wheelers Cycling Club have been very busy with their novel fundraising events in conjunction with the Sligo Lions Club Christmas Food appeal. On Saturday 9th December over 25 members took part in a static cycle and bucket collection for over 6 hours in the Quayside shopping centre which is always generously supported by the public in Sligo.
Next day, Sunday 10th December, the club was involved in a fun event our Santa Cycle where members convert from their Lycra club colours into crazy seasonal outfits including Santa suits, Elf costumes, Christmas pyjamas and anything else that people are brave enough to cycle in. Cyclists pay to enter this event and all funds again go to Lions Club Food Appeal.
Over 40 Santas & helpers cycled this year and brought great amusement and fun to all who spotted them especially children of all ages. The attempt at Carol singing at the seafront in Strandhill was followed by a social gathering inConnolly’s Bar in Sligo town
Prizes were awarded for best Mr Clause and Mrs Clause outfits(sponsors Kates’s Kitchen) which were presented to Eva Mulrooney and Hugh Clancy and best decorated bikes (sponsors Gary Cycles) was awarded to Geraldine and John Delorey.
Thanks to Innisfree Wheelers the Lions Club appeal this year will benefit by Eur. 2,900
