Con Lee elected
Chairman: Popular Donegal man Con Lee was elected
chairman of Innisfree Wheelers at our recently held Annual General
Meeting.
Con takes over the reins form founding member Seamus
McGowan who wants to concentrate on his racing and time-trialling in
the coming season. Many tributes were paid to Seamus for the great
leadership shown during the birth pangs of our new cycling club. The
club is now firmly established on the national stage and indeed has
had many members competing in International events in countries as
far away as Nepal.
Eoghan Sheehan took over the treasurers job from
Barry O'Flynn who kept the club in a magnificent financial footing
despite some serious outlay on many events over the past number of
years. Barry also wants to improve on his cycling and running times
in the coming year. We wish him well in the Dublin Marathon.
Secretary John Green outlined the club's many activities over the
past year as follows:
The meeting reflected on a very successful
year for the club both at home and abroad. Participation
by club members Alan
Kelly and Paul Flynn in this years Marmotte event in France,
Barry O' Flynn, Seamus McGowan and Paul Flynn in the Dragon Ride
in Wales along with participation by a large number of members
in Leisure events countrywide were some of the highlights of the
year. Also on the home scene we came home with success in the
All Ireland under age road event having Edel Burke winning in
her age group.
On the Mountain Bike side of things success was
achieved by Gavin and Edel Burke
winning the Connacht League and Carl Young winning the Masters
Downhill and going on
to represent the
club in the World Championships in France. In trhe Connacht Time
Trial League we also had success with Seamus Mc Gowan and
Collette Hennigan winning their respective categories. All our
club Touring events, the Tour of the Three Counties, the Yeats
Tour and the Ladies Tour of Lough Gill all went off very
successfully.
Of all these events the Ladies Tour yet again
achieved huge interest and participants from far afield. On the
local and club side of things one of the biggest positives was
the introduction of the Tuesday and Thursday Spin which is
coordinated by our Club members Pam, Eddie, Brendan and Rosie.
The committee for the coming year which was elected on the night
is as follows.
