After the Easter Break all members got back to regular club spins in the last few days. The Sunday Spin proved
as popular as ever with a large group heading for the Hungry Rock /Temple House Circuit to take in some preparation
and get a taste of the An Post Route. It was evident with the shape of some of the members that they had spent a good week of cycling in Majorca.Next Sunday it is hoped that a longer part of the route can be taken in and also have the bulk of the route of the An Post160km route completed by the day of the event.
The group of Club members returned from a good weeks training in Majorca on Easter Sunday. All who attended got what they required out of the week without being put under too much pressure. It was a very intense week of training having to cycle six out of the seven days.So even though most members were on the tired side by week end the training will definitely stand to all in the months to come.Well done to all who attended on another successful tour and another great achievement for the club.
Our Club Member Paul Keogh put in a great time in the recent Enniskillen Lakeland Clubs Time Trial event where he was in the company of some of the top club racers in Northern Ireland. He just missed out on first place by one second which was a great achievement. Some of the cyclists he beat have all cycled at a very high level over the last number of years in club events countrywide and for this reason he should be congratulated on his placing. It is certainly a marker as to the level of other cyclists in the club and the type of events they should be looking at competing in.
Next big day on the Club Calendar will be the Tour of the Three Counties which will be held on Saturday April 24th.The event which is one of the longest established events in the North West will start from Sligo Clarion Hotel at 10am taking the route to Bundoran,Kinlough,Manorhamilton and back to Sligo. This years event is being held in aid of Sligo Cregg House. All members and friends are requested to make a big effort to turn out for this event which is an ideal event to complete prior to the An Post event on May 9th.
A meeting of all club members will be held in the Sligo Park Hotel on Thursday next April 14th at 9.00pm.It is hoped that a large number of members will attend as some very important items are down for discussion. The Three Counties event,Club Constituition and Club Gear are some of the important items on the agenda.
The Saturday morning spin has taken place over the last four weeks and more new members are requested to atttend as it is an ideal starting point from which to work from.A number of disability cyclists are involved in this group on Tandems and so it is hoped that more cyclists will come along and help support these people.Anyone with the 60km An Post Cycle in mind could certainly use it as a good training spin in preparation. All levels of cyclist both Male and Female are more than welcome to attend.
