The Summer Tour of the Burren which will happen on Saturday the 19th
of June 2010 will have a number of Innisfree Wheelers tourers taking
part. Among those travelling will be John Molloy, Eddie Ryan, Fintan
Conlon, Pam Benson, Rosie McLaren, Brendan Brogan, Alan Kelly,
Seamus McGowan to name but a few.
This event has grown in popularity over the last six years and
attracted over 1000 cyclists in 2009. The “Tour de Burren”
is part of the An
Post Cycle Series, between An Post and the Irish Sports Council
which encourages communities around the country to get on their
bikes. There are a variety of routes available on the day from the
Family Spin of 10k, a 60k challenge for moderate cyclists and a
160km route for the more experienced cyclists.
The 2009 event won great acclaim
for its organizing, the clear route signposting, the quality and
number of the food and water stops as well as the fabulous
strawberry cheesecake which was served at the food stop in
Lisdoonvarna.
It is
is truly a great day out - Good luck
to all Innisfree Wheelers taking part..
Meanwhile Paul Keogh, who is really flying at the moment will take
on the Wicklow 200km challenge on Sunday 13th June and he will be
joined by some of our Donegal/North Leitrim members, among them will
be Damien Foley from Kinlough. These guys from the Bundoran area
have really added to the club's 9 o'clock Sunday spin this Summer
when they sometimes cycle in from Bundoran to join the regular
group, cycle over 100 kilometres and then cycle home!
Paul Keogh will join club-mates Alan Kelly and Paul Flynn this year
in one of Europe's toughest cycling challenges - La Marmotte -
taking place in the French Alps on the 3rd of July. If the Innisfree
lads are feeling ok after their 12 hour cycle then they can tackle
the Alpe De Heuz Time Trial the following day!
Maratona des Dolomites 2010
Pam Benson and Brendan Brogan - no strangers to touring will take on
their biggest challenge yet also on the other side of the Alps in
Italy when they climb the fearsome Maratona des Dolomites in Alta
Badia, July 4, 2010.
The Marathon of the Dolomites is a must for lovers of cycling
Marathons, immersed in the beautiful scenery of the Dolomites,
recently declared a World Natural Heritage by UNESCO.
The Marathon of the Dolomites offers three different routes, the
marathon 106 km, the 106 km dolomites route and the small Sella
Ronda, 55 km: Good luck to Pam and Brendan on this adventure.
Good Luck to all Innisfree Wheelers time-trialers, racers, tourers,
leisure cyclists for the Summer of 2010 and be safe on the road.
