The past week has been a very busy one for the club with a number of important engagements for club members. On last Saturday we held our first official club event of the year with the staging of a Club Coaching Day for both new and existing members. The biggest percentage of the group were new members with twenty four showing up to be passed on the basics from which to go forward and plan the year ahead.

Gary Mc Keegan the current Director of Coaching with Cycling Ireland was course co-ordinator for the day and tested each member individually to assess their ability, in order to set a plan for each member, specific to their requirements. A vast number of topics were covered on the intense day both on and off the bike. Hopefully all who attended will benefit from the course. Another course is planned for later in the year when Gary will return and reassess those who took part on.

Last Sunday John Delorey Vice Chairman and Secretary John Greene attended the launch in Dublin of the An Post Tour which this year takes place in Sligo on May 9th.
This year we will be graced with the presence of cycling legend Sean Kelly who has been contracted to take part in three of the events. Sligo has been lucky to be chosen as one of the events that he will take part in. This is a great boost for the event and both of the John's had the pleasure of meeting with the great man on their trip to Dublin last Sunday. The local launch of the event will take place in the Glasshouse Hotel on Wednesday night at 8.30pm.All members are requested to make a special effort to attend the launch of the event which the club have been represented on at committee level since the outset of its organisation.

Our Sunday spin numbers reduced slightly last Sunday due to the freezing temperatures. We hope that at some stage soon we will get some milder weather which will be more attractive for longer spins. Also we hope that the Saturday spin will kick off in the next few weeks in order to give more options and especially give an option to the newer members for shorter spins.

A limited amount of club gear is still available from club secretary John Greene 0861005219 at a reduced cost. We need to get the current stock off our hands before we put up a new order which will be done very shortly, with the increase in new members.

The Table Quiz scheduled in last weeks notes for the 4th March will now be held on Tuesday March 10th at the Harp Tavern. Members please note change of date.

Anyone who has not payed up this years Cycling Ireland Fees and Club Membership are requested to do so as this is now a requirement for taking part in any of the club spins.
Cycling Ireland membership is 10 euro for new members and 20 euro for renewals. Club Membership is 20 euro.New Members are always more than welcome especially anyone with an interest in training for the upcoming An Post Tour on May 9th.
