The 2010 National Cycling Championships
will be held in Sligo between June 24th
& June 27th. Hosting the event is the
Eire Og Cycling Club, no strangers to
the organisation of top level racing.
The Road Championships were last held in
Sligo in 2004 when they were won by
David O Loughlin riding for the Total
Cycling squad. The previous year the
Champs were also held in Sligo with
local rider Mark Scanlon (pictured
above) riding for French professional
outfit AG2R trouncing the field for an
emphatic victory in front of the home
fans.
The Road Championships were also held in
Sligo in the mid 1970's. Shay O Hanlon
of Clann Bruagh took the honours ahead
of Noel Clarke of Navan Road Club.
