IWCC touring rides are designed for riders
looking for an enjoyable ride at a more comfortable pace. If you’re
thinking of starting cycling as a sport for the first time, or you’re
unsure of your ability, the touring rides are for you!
Before you
come out on a ride, make sure your bike is fit to ride. If it breaks
down, it could be a long walk! It’s good to bring basic tools,
especially a spare inner tube.
If you
haven’t ridden much before, it’s worth familiarizing yourself with the
rules of the road before you come out for the first time. Most routes used
stay away from main roads where possible, but there is likely to be
fairly heavy traffic leaving and returning to Sligo.
If you’re
on a ride and finding the pace a little fast, make sure the ride
leader knows this! There’s likely to be a wide range of abilities of
riders, but the pace should accommodate everyone.
Finally –
it’s a VERY good idea to wear a helmet. Choose appropriate clothing for the weather, so if it’s
cold then bring lots of layers and a rucksack. It’s also well worth bringing a
water bottle and a small amount of food, for example a banana or a
cereal bar.
