The Co-operation Ireland annual biking
challenge ‘Into the East’ which took place over the weekend,
27-28 June 2009, was a resounding success.
In near perfect weather conditions,
the cyclists gallantly took on their 160 mile challenge,
through some of the most beautiful scenery on the island.
Louth County Council Deputy Chairman Councillor Jim
Lennon officially started the event off at the Dundalk
Institute of Technology and throughout the route officials
from the sponsoring councils came out to meet the
participants.
The dinner on Saturday evening provided a great
opportunity for the cyclists to meet and get to know one
another. Music was provided and anyone who had the energy
was up on the dance floor.
On Sunday morning the cyclists were raring to go and they
set off promptly at 9.00am. Again they cycled through some
stunning and historic locations, including the Boyne Valley
and Slane.
Innisfree Wheelers were well represented in this event.
John Molloy, Pam Benson, Eddie Ryan and Brendan Brogan
completed the cycle on both Saturday and Sunday, while
Lyndsey Browne and Fintan Conlon completed the Sunday event.
Well done to our members for completing this great event.
