The Garda and PSNI once again
joined forces for the Sixth Annual PSNI/Garda Cycle and
taken on the challenge of cycling 300 miles over three days
in support of three charities, the Marie Keating Foundation,
Co-operation Ireland and the Ulster Cancer Foundation. The
bike tour took place on Wednesday 2nd September
when the cyclists began at the Dromhall Hotel in
Killarney and finished on Saturday 5th September.
Three members of Innisfree Wheelers
participated in this challenging cycle for a very worthy
cause. Con Lee, John Molloy and Willie O'Neill took part in
the three day event under mixed weather conditions. The
distance was no problem to our Innisfree boys as they had
begun their training as far back as April with a arduous
training stint in the Italian Mountains.
This years event in Kerry was a
challenging bike ride, covering 300 miles and including the
Ring of Kerry, The Dingle Peninsula, Killarney Valley and
the Beara Peninsula. Kerry, one of the most scenic
counties in Ireland, is often referred to as The
Kingdom, as it is believed to be the closest thing to
heaven on earth.
Cyclists had to
raise a minimum target sponsorship of 875 Euro/700 Stg for
the three worthy charities. Included was entry to the
bike ride, bed and breakfast hotel accommodation and evening
meals for four nights with lunches supplied on the road,
support vehicles and full backup services.
