2009 has been once again a brilliant year for
Innisfree Wheelers Cycling Club. We consolidated our position as one
of the most active touring clubs in the country when we had members
participate in many sportive events both at home and abroad.
The real starting point for the year took place
on 10th of May with the staging of the Inaugural An Post Challenge
10k, 60k and 180k events which saw 785 cyclists take to the saddle
in Sligo and surrounding area on what was one of the best (maybe the
only sunny day) of the Summer of 2009.
The great news is that this event will go ahead
again in 2010 - on 9th of May to be exact and hopefully large
numbers will again turn out to make for a great days cycling.
The other big success story for the club is the
popularity of the Tuesday and Thursday spins. These runs started out
with a few "retirees" on Tuesday and Thursday mornings going for a
pleasant spin. Now the spins have almost overtaken the Sunday Spin
in popularity and really suit members who work weekends and find
some spare time during the week to join in this great group. Well
done to Pam, Rosie, Eddie and Brendan who lead the group most of the
time.
The social side of the club is as strong as ever
and an example of this was the record number of members travelling
to Italy in April last for a memorable weeks cycling - and partying!
Another large group travelled to Westport for our "Irish" weekend
away.
So to one and all - keep up the cycling and the
partying in 2010 and welcome on board to our new members - you are
most welcome and keep in touch with this website for up-to-date
information on club and general cycling activities throughout 2010.
