Ladies Tour of Lough Gill Saturday 27th September 2008

Innisfree Wheelers in association with Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership and Women in Sport stage this fantastic introduction to Ladies Cycling on Saturday 27th of September, starting at Sligo IT at 10am. This is your chance to get involved in a ladies only leisure event. The tour will be staged over a very flat 40k scenic course around the beautiful Lough Gill with plenty of rest stops and feed and drink stations along the route. This tour is for beginners so all levels of ability will be catered for. All you need on the day is a road-worthy bike and a helmet is a must!  All entries will be accepted on the day - just come along to Sligo IT car park from 9:30 am and join up with all the other lady tourers. Entry fee is a mere 10 euro and all entrants will receive a goodie bag, a tee-shirt and lots of refreshments along the way!!

Yeats Country Challenge - A Great Success: The clubs first hosting of a major touring event took place on Sunday August 31st starting and finishing at Sligo IT. Just over forty cyclists took part in both 90k and 150k events and all enjoyed a great days touring on a challenging course through some panoramic scenery in Sligo, Leitrim and Fermanagh. The weather relented from the rain and the sun shone as the tour made its way through beautiful Glencar. The first climb was encountered here. A welcome rest stop came in Manorhamilton. The 150k tourers took off towards Kinlough while the 90k event turned for home with just a severe climb on Muragh mountain facing them. Once over this it was literally down hill all the way to Sligo. Meanwhile the 150k cyclists circumvented the 40k route around Lough Melvin and took another short break in Garrision, before taking on their second major climb out of Kiltyclogher. The second group got broken up on this climb and then it was three groups that tackled the final climb across Muragh before coasting home to Sligo through scenic Calry.

Thank You to all helpers on Yeats Country Challenge: IWCC wishes to acknowledge the help and support provided by the following: John Harte and Padraig Davey in the sweeper vans. Alan Waters and his team on the motor cycles. An Garda Siochana Motor Cyclists and cars. The Civil Defence Ambulance team. The Milestone Bar Manorhamilton for refreshments. The Clarion Hotel Sligo for showers and refreshments. Glencar Water for the refreshing water. Sligo IT for toilets and registration. All the stewards along the course, especially the team from Manorhamilton. All our members who provided food and help on the day especially those who could not partake in this great event. Thank you to anyone not mentioned above, as there were so many volunteers that made this event such a success. We are already looking forward to an even bigger event in 2009.I
