After the last few weeks of the "Big Freeze" it was refreshing for club members to get back on the road for the Sunday Spin.Obviously alot of members were keen to get out as we had the biggest turn out for a club run than we would of ever had before in January.A group of thirty cyclists both established and new club members headed north for Mullaghmore and Bundoran to enjoy a great spin in ideal conditions for the time of year.It was a great opportunity to clear the body from all the festivities which had lingered on longer than usual due to the weather conditions. We all look forward now to the year ahead to what will hopefully be another good year for the club. Plans for a number of club activities have already been put in place with our Annual Club events of the Tour of the Three Counties, the Yeats Country Challenge and the Ladies Tour of Lough Gill taking priority. These fall in along with the clubs participation in the organisation of the An Post Tour which will take place this year again in early May. Plans are also in the early stages for the Annual Club Trip abroad which this year is to Majorca in mid April. Club members should give priority at this stage of the year and consider a number of the following

* Servicing of Bike and replacement of any worn parts especially tyres.
* Check your spare tube, pump and repair kit that all is intact.
* Setting a goal for the year ahead even if its as far away as June/July    (eg.150km Sportive Event in Mid June)
* Keep a diary of your training and plan ahead based on your long term goal
* Particularly at this time of year prepare for the conditions by wearing the correct clothing to avoid
picking up a cold or flu.
* If you do happen to catch colds or flu take a few days or a week off from cycling as you will get back on
track quicker than if you try to cycle through the virus.
You will enjoy your cycling more if you take onboard the above tips.
This coming week Spinning will resume in the Sligo Park Hotel Leisure Centre on Thursday 21st from 8.00pm to 9.00pm at a cost of thirty six euro for six weeks.Club members who wish to take part should contact the Secretary on 086-1005219 to book your place.First twelve will get priority.

New Members  are more than welcome to take part on all spins provided their equipment is in good condition and they have a reasonable level of fitness. A coaching course will be held in the next few weeks with new members in particular in mind to bring them up to speed on what is required to take part in club spins especially from a safety point of view.
