The Mayo
Pink Ribbon Appeal Cycle took place on
May 1st and the route was a loop
starting and finishing in Castlebar and
passing through Balla, Claremorris,
Knock, Kiltimagh, Swinford, Foxford,
Straide and Ballyvary. This was purely a
leisure cycle not a race so participants
cycled at their own pace.
The purpose
of the cycle was to raise funds for the
National Breast Cancer Research
Institute. This institute is based in
Galway and is doing amazing work in the
area of breast cancer research. Recently
they had a huge breakthrough in
isolating tumour markers in the blood
which will make early diagnosis much
more straightforward and so save
countless lives.
Innisfree Wheelers first group visit to
an Irish cycling sportive challenge of
2010 took place to this event recently
F
ive
club members: Pam Benson, Brendan
Brogan, Eddie Ryan, John Delorey and
John Greene took part in this years
100km Pink Ribbon event in Castlebar.
All acquitted well of themselves on the
day. This was the first year of the
event and a big crowd from all across
the west enjoyed a great days cycling
for a very good cause.
All of the club members finished with a
good bit in the tank and shows the level
of fitness that has been achieved by
members who train on a regular basis
over the winter. Well done to all these
members for supporting such a very
worthy cause.
