2010 began as 2009 had
finished - with very poor weather for the cyclists of Innisfree
Wheelers. The freezing weather conditions pretty much put an end to
group road cycling for a period from the 13th of December until the
17th of January. One of the reasons for this was not totally
weather-related. IWCC had its Christmas Party on the night of the
12th of December!!
However the long lay-off is often good for any cyclist and judging
by the great turn-out for the
Sunday Spin on the 17th of January
most members have a new fresh appetite for the saddle and hopefully
these great numbers will continue into the Spring and Summer of
2010.
Many of our new members turned up for the spin on the 17th and were
made most welcome by the Sunday spin bunch. Prior to our departure
Seamus McGowan and Chairman Con Lee issued some basic safety
instructions and the scenic coastal route to Mullaghmore was chosen
as the first tour of 2010. The sun finally shone and the roads
were thankfully ice-free as we peddled at a steady pace towards Mullaghmore.
Following the breathtakingly scenic loop of Mullaghmore-head the
bunch split up into two groups at Cliffoney for the return leg to
Sligo. The larger group enjoyed a welcome coffee in Cliffoney
village, while the other tourers headed north for a rest-stop in
Tullaghan, before turning for home.
You can check out the distances, terrain profiles, average speed and
even average heart rate expected on any of our routes by clicking on
the Spin Routes in our menu. We also record some photo's of our
spins and check out the Gallery for those. If any of you members or
friends have some digital pictures, then we would be glad to hear
from you and we can publish them on our web site if you wish.
Meanwhile have a Very Happy New Year and enjoy your cycling safely!
