Tour of Three Counties Saturday 30th May:
This annual event took place on Saturday May 30th starting at10 am
at Sligo IT car park. Over fifty cyclists turned up to the start on
what was an absolutely brilliant day. Innisfree Wheelers is
certainly blessed with its events so far in 2009. The An Post Tour
and now this event were bathed in brilliant sunshine.
This weather made for a very pleasant ride for all participants.
Race director John Greene decided to start the 80 Kilometre tour in
the direction of Bundoran, thus avoiding a strong headwind on the
return leg. The cyclists enjoyed a welcome break for coffee and
sandwiches at Kinlough GAA grounds at the 30k mark.
A group of seven Innisfree Wheelers members acted as race safety
stewards throughout the event. This proved to be very successful and
helped ensure that there was no major incident caused by racing from
the front or over-bunching at the rear. Thanks to all the volunteers
who helped out on Motor bikes, refreshments', backups and entries. A
special thanks once again to An Garda Siochana who ensured a safe
departure through the busy junctions from Sligo Town. The event each
year raises badly needed funds for local charities. This year the
beneficiary is St Johns Hospital Patient Comfort Fund.
The picture above shows club member Brendan Sands give a helping
hand to some flagging cyclists in the Glenade valley. See some more
action from this great event
